What is Lipiflow®?

The Lipiflow® Thermal Pulsation System is an FDA-approved treatment procedure for Evaporative Dry Eye.

What is Evaporative Dry Eye?

If you suffer from chronic dry eye symptoms, your condition may be related to an inadequate protective layer of oil in your tears.

As many as 86% of patients experience dry eye symptoms caused by
evaporative or lipid-deficient dry eye.

Your tears are made up of three layers:

LipiFlow Tear Film Anatomy

Evaporative Dry Eye disease is most often caused by a blockage or obstruction in the meibomian glands, which can lead to a lipid deficiency in the tears.

The LipiFlow® treatment works to unblock glands, improve oil secretions and provide symptom relief as well.

If your doctor determines that blocked glands are at the root of your dry eye condition and you are a candidate for vision care in the Dry Eye Clinic, you can now be treated with the LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation System.

The following patients with dry eye symptoms received the LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation Treatment in one eye. Four weeks later, this is what they had to say:

– MN, 40-year-old female (March 2013) "I have noticed several improvements in my symptoms since the LipiFlow® treatment. My treated eye definitely has less of a gritty feeling, especially toward the end of the day or after a long period of working in front of the computer. Contact lens wear is more comfortable than before the treatment and compared to the other, untreated, eye. Vision is more stable in the treated eye since I don't need to blink too much to clear up vision in the treated eye compared to the untreated eye."

– MY, 41-year-old male (March 2013) "I had been suffering from dry eyes for many years. My eyes would often be red, would burn, and would sometimes be so dry at the end of the day that I was able to hear myself blink. I had tried many different treatments but they either did not work or did not provide long-term relief. I decided to have the LipiFlow® treatment performed on the worse of my two eyes. I was surprised by how quickly my symptoms improved in a matter of a few days and that the improvements are sustained. I no longer feel the end-of-day burn in the treated eye, but my untreated eye still does and is significantly more symptomatic than the treated eye. I am definitely looking forward to having the LipiFlow® treatment done on my other eye."

– RV, 67-year-old male (March 2013) "There was definitely an improvement immediately after treatment that still persists. The difference is moderate and mostly in the area of increased comfort. Blinks feel much more smooth and comfortable in the eye that was treated compared to the untreated eye. Also, the untreated eye is dry and scratchy in the morning with initial lid drag/adhesion to the eye, and there is none of that with the treated eye. The treated eye starts out slick and stays that way."
