Coronavirus Update

The Meredith Morgan Eye Center at Minor Hall is open and providing patient care. 
The Optometry Clinic at The Tang Eye Center is closed.

For the health and safety of all:

  • Face coverings are required for all who enter the clinic and must be worn during the entire visit.
  • Everyone entering will be required to sanitize their hands upon entering and will be required to wash and or sanitize their hands multiple times during their visit.
  • All persons entering the clinic will have their health screened by being asked a series of questions and by having their temperature taken with a touch-less thermometer.
  • All persons must follow social distancing guidelines posted throughout the clinic.  

Patients needing to pick-up contacts or glasses ordered at either Minor Hall or the Tang Eye Center are encouraged to have them shipped by mail by calling 510-642-2020. On-site material pick up is available at Minor Hall by appointment.

Our Clinic Director, school leadership, and clinic safety committee will continue to closely monitor national and local developments with regards to COVID-19, and will continue to coordinate planning and response efforts with University of California, Berkeley Campus and local public health officials.  [Posted 05/15/2020]

The Meredith Morgan University Eye Center appreciates your support and understanding with our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our friends, family and community members. Due to the Shelter-In-Place order, we are unable to perform routine eye care at this time. The clinic is open for essential care and emergency patients only.

What is an example of an eye emergency?

  • Eye injury
  • Red eye
  • Painful eye
  • Flashes of light
  • Floaters in vision
  • Strange or sudden changes in vision

In addition, we have expanded our services to include Telehealth appointments with one of our doctors.

We are here to help you and are committed to offering you the best care possible with convenient access. For now, coming in to see us may not be possible, but we can still see and help you through a telehealth visit.

Tang Eye Center

The Tang Eye Center provides a wide variety of services to meet your visual and ocular health needs. The clinical staff includes two U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry graduates and residency trained doctors of optometry, senior and junior optometry interns, post-graduate optometry residents, and an American Board of Opticianary Certified optician.

The Clinic is a large modern facility, equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic instruments. There is a wide selection of reasonably priced frames and contact lenses available. With the same quality service and experise found at the Meredith W. Morgan Eye Center at Minor Hall, the Tang Eye Center operates right in the heart of the University Health Services Tang Center.

  • Blurry vision
  • Trouble seeing at night
  • Trouble seeing the lecture board
  • Eyestrain with reading

  • Itchy, gritty, burning sensation

The Tang Eye Center is located on the 3rd floor of the UHS Tang Center at 2222 Bancroft Way between Ellsworth St. and Fulton St. It is a short walk away from the downtown Berkeley BART.
